Morning Light

We had a lovely, quiet (ish) weekend. The girls stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's Friday night, and Dad made a waffle and egg breakfast on Saturday, which we invited ourselves too. Then Livie and Tori came for lunch and a few games. After they left, Elsie was sleeping, the kids were playing quietly, so I tackled a project from my sewing basket. It was such a lovely hour. So often, things are chaotic, kids are fighting, people need things, but for that one hour, all was peace. The kids were happy, playing with blocks, dolls, and Donald Duck comic books. I sat next to the window in a comfy seat and did some seam ripping in the afternoon light. And thought about how wonderful life can be. Those are the hours that make everything worthwhile. Those hours when life seems to be at a pinnacle.

"For one white, singing hour of peace, count many a year of strife well lost"-- Sara Teasdale, a quote I heard here and there while growing up. It actually seems to encapsulate parenthood perfectly. Because those hours do make it all worthwhile.

There was a potluck Sunday, after union meeting. Visiting, food, laughter, and games. Which is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.

And now, it is Monday again. Sunshine-y and new.

I am not sure why, but I have really been noticing sunlight these past few weeks. Noticing what it touches, the shadows it makes, the warmth. I blame a long, cold winter for this. My mind is unconsciously craving sunlight. For all the snow and cold we have had this winter, we have had more than our fair share of sunlight. Which makes life more bearable. If it is going to be cold, it might as well be beautiful while it is at it.

So here are my pictures of morning light. I know these are somewhat pointless pictures. I just like them. So bear with me.

Sunlight on the counter. Which makes my 70's formica shine like a diamond.

I walked into the bedroom the other sunny day (which has south-facing windows) and Sami was propped up in front of the window, w/ the blinds all the way up and his feet crossed on the sill. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "I need my vitamin D!" I think we're all getting a bit heliocentric these days haha!

Look at you, with your pretty, clean house! And there's nothing so pretty as sunshine on wood floors.
